Whilst editing a document in our default editor or in Microsoft Word for Web, you may like to incorporate comments on the piece of work for other collaborators to view.

Comments can be specific or general in nature, depending on the types of conversations you would like to initiate on your file.

Read on to find out more about:

Adding comments in our default editor

General comments

General comments are comments about the overall document. To add general comments on a document, select the comment icon on the left hand side of the document.

Type any comments as required, then click Add comment to save them.

Specific comments

To add a comment to a specific word or phrase, use your mouse to highlight the correct section of the document. Add your comment in the specific comment box, then click Add to allow your collaborators to view and respond to it.

Adding comments in Microsoft Word for Web

General comments

General comments are comments about the overall document. To add general comments on a document, select the Comments option on the top right hand side of the document. Click New.

General comments in Microsoft Word for Web act differently to our default editor. Unlike our default editor, this will create an entry at the point where your cursor was left on the document.

Click the Send icon to save your changes.

Note that you can also Reply to and Like existing comments.

You can also click the Three dots to

  • Link to the comment

  • Edit the comment

  • Resolve the comment

  • Delete the comment

Specific comments

To add a comment to a specific word or phrase, use your mouse to highlight the correct section of the document. Right click and click New comment from any of the available options.

Add your comment in the specific comment box, then click Add to allow your collaborators to view and respond to it. You will be able to make further modifications to your comments as per the steps above.

Note that your comments will be shared with all parties, including external counterparties at the sign stage, when your document reaches that part of the workflow.
