Age Restriction
To sign up to Facebook you must be at least 13 years of age. As a result, any promotion run on Facebook must be open to persons of at least 13 years old.
You can choose to increase the age limit for entry e.g. 18yrs+. A higher age limit may be required based on the product and prize advertised e.g. if promoting an alcohol product it must be 18yrs+.
Permitted Entry Mechanics
The following entry mechanics are permissible under Facebook terms:
Post a comment to a promotional post
'like' a Facebook post
Promotions administered via a Facebook app
Promotions via Facebook groups/events/pages
Non-Permitted Entry Mechanics
Under 3. Promotions on Pages, Groups, and Events of the Facebook Pages Guidelines the following mechanics are strictly speaking NOT permitted:
Personal Timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions. Examples are as follows:
Entrant to post a photo to their own Facebook Page
Entrant to 'share' a post to their own Facebook Page
Entrant to 'share' a post/video on their friend's Facebook Page
'Tag' a friend in a post
Under the Facebook Platform Policies, the following mechanic is also not permitted:
'like' a Facebook Page
However, Facebook does not seem to be readily enforcing these restrictions on the above ''non-permitted entry mechanics'' and many promoters are conducting promotions involving the above entry methods as a condition of entry without any ramifications.
Therefore, it is LOW RISK to proceed with any of the above entry methods outlined above.
Terms and Conditions
The following must also be included in the terms for any Facebook Promotion:
A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant; and
Acknowledgement that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook.
Plexus ensures any terms created via the Promotion Wizard include a clause that covers the above requirements.
Facebook does NOT approve promotions
Facebook will not assist you in the administration of your promotion, and Facebook advised that if you use their platform to administer your promotion, you do so at your own risk.
