Running a promotion on Twitter
Age Restriction
To sign up to Twitter you must be at least 13 years of age. As a result, any promotion run on Twitter must be open to persons of at least 13 years old.
You can choose to increase the age limit for entry e.g. 18yrs+. A higher age limit may be required based on the product and prize advertised e.g. if promoting an alcohol product it must be 18yrs+.
Twitter Contest Guidelines
Twitter requires that any competition run on Twitter complies with their Twitter Contest Guidelines, which outlines that competitions must:
Discourage the creation of multiple accounts e.g. include a general rule stating that anyone found to use multiple accounts will be deemed invalid
Discourage posting the same Tweet repeatedly: e.g. whoever retweets this the most wins is not a permitted mechanic. Twitter recommends setting clear contest rules stating that multiple entries in a single day will not be accepted
Ask entrants to include the promoter's account as a 'mention' in their tweet in order for you to search for their entry
Hashtag requested to be used must be relevant to the competition topic. If the hashtag is unrelated it will be in breach of the Twitter guidelines
Must comply with the general Twitter Rules
