When awarding tickets to an event you will need:
(a) Approval from the event organisers to award tickets to the event; and
(b) There may also be conditions on ticket which specify that you need permission from a certain entities in order to award tickets to the event e.g. Ticketek, etc.

Ramifications for NOT getting approval

(1) If no consent is obtained, the tickets may be cancelled/deemed invalid by the event organiser and any winner may not be permitted entry into the event.
(2) There are misleading and deceptive conduct / passing off concerns in awarding tickets to an event without consent, as there is normally an implication of any association between the promoter and event/event organiser.

How to Reduce Risks if choose to proceed without approval

Make any references to the event extremely vague in any advertising e.g. do not call out the sporting event, and instead include a vague reference that tickets awarded to a sporting event (e.g. a golfing event). And you must not use any logos/trademarks of the sporting event as this would be in breach of their copyright.

AFL Grand Final Ticket Prizes

If you choose to award tickets to the AFL Grand Final, you also need to ensure you obtain an approval code from the AFL to award those tickets, and it must be specified in the terms and conditions for the competition and any promotional advertising.
